A Washington couple who moved into a house a few months ago uncovered an eerie note warning them about something hidden in their new home.
Moving can be a stressful experience. A survey of 1,000 U.S. adults conducted by OnePoll on behalf of North American Van Lines showed that moving ranked as the most stressful life event (45 percent) ahead of breaking up or getting divorced (44 percent), getting married (33 percent) and having a baby (31 percent).
When Anita Rainier and her husband moved into their new home just outside of Seattle in December, it all went relatively smoothly. However, an unexpected discovery in the past couple of weeks has left the couple thinking a little differently about their new home.
It all started when they were talking through some planned renovations.

“My husband and I were just chatting in the kitchen, deciding how we should set up one particular display cabinet,” Rainier said. “I got down at an angle and suddenly let out a cry of ‘what the f*** is that?'”
Rainier had seen something hidden in the top of the cabinet and pointed it out to her husband.
“It was this really well-hidden bit of paper tightly tucked into the top of the cabinet, totally out of sight unless you got all the way down like I was looking up,” she said.
The moment they made the discovery, they stopped whatever planning they had been doing and instead focused on the note, opening folded paper to reveal an eerie five-word warning handwritten inside. It said simply: “Don’t look under the floor.”
Some might have been perturbed to find that kind of note in their home, but Rainier and her husband had a slightly different reaction.
“It was both hilarious and kind of exciting to think there might be some hidden mystery here,” she said. The mystery was deepened further by the discovery of a series of random numbers that had been written on the back of the paper: “29065300489382.”
“What we thought was interesting was there were no results when we Googled the number,” Rainier said. “We were expecting it to be some number relating to at least something. like a part number the prior owner scribbled down, at least some kind of hit. but with nothing.”
Rainier and her husband wondered whether the previous tenant had left the number as part of some kind of “scavenger hunt” and tried every trick in the book to decode what they could mean.
“We divided it by our unit number, ZIP code, year the building was built, etc., to see if we could get a whole number or phone number or something,” she said. “No luck!”

Eager for answers, the couple posted the discovery to Reddit under the handle u/issaquahhighlands.
“Found this note taped under a panel in this storage cabinet, previous owner just trolling me?” they wrote alongside the post.
“We were hoping someone would be able to do some detective work and identify the number or know how to decode it,” Rainier said. “It feels weird to have been sleeping in a place with a little hidden secret for 5 months.”
The responses have so far been inconclusive
One Redditor said: “2906530 is a bolt action slug shotgun. 2005-(048938) is the library of congress identifier for a Private Investigator handbook ‘The Private Investigator Handbook: The Do-It-Yourself Guide to Protect Yourself, Get Justice, or Get Even.'”
Another offered some practical advice, writing: “You can buy cameras that Bluetooth to your phone easily. We use them to locate stuff in between studs without having to remove the whole wall. If it’s really bothering you, you can buy one and put a small hole in the floor and have a look around without having to rip up the entire floor.”
Many suspected the previous tenant could be trolling them. Rainier and her husband believe that’s definitely a possibility, but they are refusing to rule out investigating further.
“We’re out of theories. Odds are, someday we’re going to take a look under the floor,” she said.
This isn’t the first time a creepy note has been found by a new tenant. One man was left stunned by a note he found in his mailbox from a mystery neighbor. A woman in Michigan, meanwhile, was left “scared” by the contents of a note sent to her after she moved into a new home. On a lighter note, one couple couldn’t help but laugh at what the previous owner left for them.
