Kuminga’s lingering decision on whether to accept the team’s qualifying offer or sign a team-friendly two-year, $45 million deal has seemingly stalled the Warriors’ plans in free agency.
Golden State has been unwilling to change its stance on the $45 million contract, which includes a team option for Year 2. This has led many to believe Kuminga is poised to return to the Warriors on a one-year, $7.9 million qualifying offer.

Kuminga would then be an unrestricted free agent following the 2025-26 season.
Given the expected outcome in the contract saga, Warriors insider Anthony Slater revealed the veterans on the team are now questioning Kuminga’s commitment for the season.
“[The veterans on the Warriors] are wondering about Jonathan Kuminga’s buy-in if he comes back on the qualifying offer,” Slater revealed on ESPN’s “NBA Today.”
The Western Conference is only getting more competitive, and the Warriors will need every player to share the same desire to win. Kuminga’s situation in free agency makes things complicated for both parties.
Sources have said Kuminga doesn’t want to be used as a pawn for the Warriors. Meanwhile, Golden State’s front office made it clear they will not be bullied into a certain contract.

Nevertheless, there is expected to be movement next week with the Oct. 1 deadline to accept the qualifying offer approaching. NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line revealed why Kuminga likely won’t sign the two-year deal with the Warriors.
“Make no mistake: Kuminga’s preference at this stage would be hashing out a longer deal that both parties can live with, but there simply hasn’t been much movement in those talks,” Fischer wrote.
“Sources say that there has been little substantive dialogue between the two sides since it emerged weeks ago that the Warriors were pushing a two-year, $45 million deal structure in which Golden State holds a team option for Year 2 and strips Kuminga of the right to grant consent on trades in Year 1.”
“Yet there is a sense, coming from those connected to both sides of these negotiations, that we could finally see some movement on the Kuminga front next week,” Fischer noted.
