Watch newly drafted Browns QB Dillon Gabriel gush about playing in warm weather

The first three rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft are now in the books.

As is to be expected, there’s been plenty of drama and interesting storylines so far. The biggest surprise is that Shedeur Sanders has not yet been drafted through three rounds.

Most draft evaluators had Sanders as the second-best quarterbak prospect behind Miami’s Cam Ward. Instead, several passers have gone ahead of Sanders and the Colorado product remains as the best player on the board.

The Cleveland Browns had multiple opportunities to select Sanders and chose not to do so. The team did take a passer in the third round, though, selecting Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel with pick No. 94.

After the Browns selected Gabriel, an old video resurfaced where the quarterback discussed his weather preferences. Gabriel was asked what a perfect situation looks like for him, and he didn’t hesitate to answer.

“I love playing football in warm weather,” said Gabriel. “The more sun the better. Why do we do it to ourselves? Do fans really want to sit in the snow?”

Well, unfortunately for Gabriel, the quarterback is heading to a place that isn’t exacly known for warm weather and sunshine.

According to Weather.gov, Cleveland gets 63.8 inches of snow on average per year and just 168 days of sunshine. That’s far worse weather than what Gabriel is accustomed to, having grown up in Hawaii and spending time in Florida, Oklahoma, and Oregon. Cleveland is one of the NFL teams that frequently gets snow games, which is something that Gabriel is unaccustomed to.

The Browns will certainly be hoping that Gabriel will warm up to the city upon his arrival. The team may have to rely on the rookie sooner than later as the quarterback position is unsettled to say the least.

In 2024, Gabriel threw for 3,857 yards with 30 touchdowns and six interceptions. The quarterback also completed 72.9% of his passes and finished third in Heisman Trophy voting.

While Gabriel’s college numbers are impressive, the quarterback wasn’t considered a top prospect due to his age and less-than-ideal size for an NFL quarterback. Gabriel knows how to win, though, and has plenty of big-game experience from his time in college.

In Cleveland, Gabriel will likely compete with Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco for the starting gig.

Other than Gabriel, the Browns have selected defensive lineman Mason Graham, linebacker Carson Schwesinger, and running back Quinshon Judkins so far. The team will look to finish the draft off strong on Saturday in rounds four through seven.
