When the massive cast for “Avengers: Doomsday” was announced, it led to a lot of fans understandably speculating that the film was going to be a massive showdown between the Avengers and Fox‘s OG X-Men. After all, not only have the two teams had some huge fights in the comics, but the MCU films have been just as ready to have superheroes fight each other as they are to portray heroes fighting villains. But according to Kevin Feige, “Avengers: Doomsday” is not an Avengers vs. X-Men movie.

As reported by MovieWeb, Kevin Feige had a recorded video message for attendees of Las Vegas’s CinemaCon. The message included a confirmation that more names were going to be announced and that the film was going to portray all the heroes – the Avengers, Wakandans, Thunderbolts, X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and everyone in between – going up against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Assuming the heroes from the different universes actually meet one another, it would not be surprising to have at least a bit of a clash between them. Even the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers in “Avengers: Infinity War” fought each other before teaming up against Thanos (Josh Brolin).

It does beg the question of what Tim Blake Nelson’s Sam Sterns was hinting at in the post-credits scene of “Captain America: Brave New World.” The gamma-irradiated genius hinted at heroes from other universes clashing with ones from the MCU. It’s possible Doctor Doom is the hero he was talking about. After all, the Russos have referred to their version of Doom as someone who believes he’s the hero of his story. Maybe Doom is from a universe where he sees himself as the premiere superhero.

“Avengers: Doomsday” hits theaters May 1, 2026. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. While more names are apparently to be added, at last tally the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr.
