A video of a dog’s reaction to its owner checking on it via a security camera has left viewers on Reddit in stitches.
The clip, shared by u/ophelia_dreamer in the r/PetsareAmazing subreddit, has amassed 9,800 upvotes and dozens of comments since it was posted on March 29.
A caption shared with the video says “when I check the camera to see what my dog’s up to.” The brief clip appears to be home security camera footage recorded back in July 2022.
As the camera pans left of a living room setting, a dog is captured staring at it before ducking its head back down while lying on the floor by the foot of a sofa.
The poster’s need to check on their dog when left alone comes as no surprised as pet owners have shown more concern for their animal companions following the COVID-19 pandemic, as more workers returned to the office.
In a March 2021 survey conducted by market research firm OnePoll, in partnership with Banfield Pet Hospital based in Portland, Oregon, one in three people said they got a new pet during the pandemic.
As COVID-19 restrictions were lifted and employees headed back to their offices, many were forced to leave their pets alone at home while they went to work.
Just under a third (32 percent) of owners contacted their veterinarian for advice about making the transition back to work easier on their pets, according to the March 2021 survey.
Around one in two people from Generation Z and one in three millennials said they would consider looking for another job in the post-pandemic era if their workplace was not pet-friendly, the survey found.

Newsweek has contacted the original poster for comment via the Reddit messaging system.
