In the first leg, Turkey wasted no time getting the scoring going, with a ninth-minute goal from Orkun Kökçü, a midfielder who plays for Benfica. However, Hungary came back to tie the game off a goal from Union Berlin midfielder András Schäfer.
But it was all Turkey from there, with second-half goals from Kerem Aktürkoğlu of Benfica and İrfan Can Kahveci of Fenerbahçe, leading to the victory in the first leg.
Hungary finished third in Group A3, behind Germany and the Netherlands but ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The team had one win, three draws, and two losses in the group stage.
Turkey was the second-place team in Group B4 with three wins, two draws, and one loss, finishing behind only Wales and ahead of Iceland and Montenegro.
