Despite the fond memories of winning a national championship together at LSU, Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson appear to have grown distant.
Leading up to the Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnati Bengals’ Week 3 matchup, Chase gave an honest admission that he and Jefferson no longer talk much.
“Is that intentional, or did y’all just get busy,” a reporter asked Chase.
Chase’s response went viral on X (formerly Twitter), garnering over two million views and widespread reactions.

“Ugh… We’re older, we don’t really have much to talk about now. You know,” Chase said in a comment that led to many fans wondering what happened with the two LSU receivers who are the center of the NFL‘s No. 1 receiver debate.
“I get the vibe [they] not really friends like [that],” one commenter wrote. “[Just] teammates in college and maybe fell out.”
“It’s definitely more to this story. They keeping it professional,” a second fan replied.
“His response sounds like something an old married couple would say,” a fan said.

Many fans on both sides of the Jefferson-Chase debate argued that jealousy is the culprit for the LSU stars’ falling out. However, their relationship may not have been more than teammates.
Chase also seems to field plenty of questions about Jefferson throughout their careers, which could grow old and warrant a short response from the Bengals star.

“We all grow – sometimes together and sometimes apart…. It really isn’t that big a tragedy,” another fan said.
Although their friendship seems to have faded, Chase and Jefferson still have amicable respect for each other.
Earlier in the offseason, Chase named Jefferson and himself as the two receivers who could surpass 2,000 receiving yards in a single season.
Approaching Sunday’s matchup, Jefferson offered his flowers to chase.
“It’s always extra when you have a player like that that’s top in the league just as well as I am,” Jefferson said Thursday before the game. “Of course, that competitive aspect is there, but at the end of the day, it’s about our team and it’s about winning.”
