After a whirlwind week of updates regarding San Francisco 49ers star quarterback Brock Purdy, the decision has been made on whether he will play in Week 3.

Purdy was ruled out during Week 2 after suffering a form of turf toe. Though there was speculation that it would be a longer-term injury, Purdy began to make great progress in practice, leading to Week 3.
Purdy’s status for Week 3 remains questionable, and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan hinted at the idea that he could be suiting up. However, that appears not to be the case.

According to multiple reports, Purdy will not be starting. This will lead to Mac Jones getting his second start of the season.
Though the hope was the star signal caller would be healed enough to get the call, the 49ers appear to be playing things safe with Purdy.

It is not at all shocking that the 49ers want to bring Purdy back slowly. They certainly do not want the injury to become worse, and with the mounting injuries to the offense already, it is better to be safe than sorry.
Also, Jones stepped up in a big way to help propel the 49ers to a second consecutive win.
Jones threw 279 yards and three touchdowns in the 49ers’ 26-21 victory over the New Orleans Saints. Jauan Jennings also showed up in a big way, securing 89 yards and a touchdown.
Even with the massive number of injuries to the 49ers’ offense, the team already has two big wins. One against the Seattle Seahawks, and the most recent victory against the Saints.
The 49ers will face another tough divisional challenge on Sunday, as they are set to face off against the Arizona Cardinals, who are also 2-0. This will be their toughest test yet, but they will face off against the Cardinals without Purdy at the helm.
With Purdy out for another week, it is believed that he will likely progress enough to be back under center when the 49ers take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4. Even if he does make that game, the Los Angeles Rams are away in Week 5.
The 49ers schedule is not an easy one, so it makes perfect sense that Shanahan is not throwing Jones back out there to potentially make his foot injury even worse. With the way Jones played in Week 2, this team still has a big chance to go 3-0 on Sunday.
