The Boston Red Sox are making quite the aggressive postseason push.
As they’re looking to build their postseason roster in advance, the Red Sox recently opted to cut ties with offseason addition Walker Buehler. Buehler had struggled for the most part this season and will be forced to try to find a new deal in the coming days.
Matt Snyder of CBS Sports recently listed the Detroit Tigers as a landing spot for the recently released Red Sox hurler.

“The Tigers have lost Reese Olson and Jackson Jobe for the season, and Casey Mize has struggled for a while. Jack Flaherty has been worse,” Snyder wrote. “Who is the No. 2 behind Tarik Skubal for the playoffs? Is it 41-year-old Charlie Morton? Or Chris Paddack? Or Flaherty or Mize?
“They need two starters and maybe three behind Skubal in order to make a deep playoff run. The moves for Morton and Paddack in front of the trade deadline suggested the Tigers are throwing whatever they can against the wall to see what sticks with the rotation. Buehler is an option.”
The Tigers struggled with pitching depth last postseason. It was practically Tarik Skubal and then the kitchen sink until Skubal could pitch again.
This year, they have better options, but they could add Buehler for insurance.
Adding Buehler could give the Tigers a lot more flexibility. He could be used as a spot starter if the Tigers need it. If the Tigers have a few solid starters, Buehler could shift to the bullpen in the same role that he did for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the final game of the 2024 World Series.
