A Chihuahua’s way of sleeping in late alongside its owner has defied common stereotypes about the notoriously energetic breed, all while leaving plenty of viewers on TikTok in stitches.
The video, shared by the dog’s owner who goes by @abigailvazquez_1 on the platform, shows the small white dog sound asleep in bed next to her, well past sunrise.
Overlaid with the text, “my mom: You have to wake up early and take your dog outside to use the restroom … Me and my dog at 10.00AM,” the clip flips expectations of predawn pet routines with a scene of shared stillness.
A lighthearted caption reads: “Like she hasn’t even stretched her paws yet?”
Since being posted on July 25, the 6-second video has been viewed more than 17 million times and has been liked by over 4.7 million users, quickly drawing comments from dog owners who can relate to the amusing slow-morning dynamic.
The short clip pokes fun at the belief that owning a canine—particularly a Chihuahua—requires a regimented lifestyle of early wake-ups and constant activity. Instead, the footage shows a pet perfectly aligned with its owner’s preference for sleeping in, and viewers can relate.
“Why all the Chihuahuas sleep like that,” one viewer posted. “Mine does it too.”
“Girl me and my dog at 2PM,” another said. “I wake up and immediately feed him after our hibernation.”
“The only snores I tolerate,” a third viewer shared. “I made my husband use cpap machine while my Chihuahua snores like a trucker next to us.”
While plenty of viewers could relate, several shared that their dogs do in fact match the stereotype of waking up with boundless energy at the crack of dawn.
“Where can I find a boy like that [because] mine wakes me up sharp [at] 6.30am,” one viewer posted.
“Meanwhile me, if I breath too loud at 6:01 she’s already going to get her toy so we can play,” another added.
Chihuahuas are often portrayed as highly active, vocal and demanding, but the video offers a softer image—one of comfort, calm, and quiet companionship.
