The adorable reaction of a deaf pit bull waking up to realize her dog sitter had arrived has melted hearts online.
While most dogs can hear when people arrive at their home and they tend to react straight away, the same can’t be said for Rose, the deaf rescue pit bull. Indeed, she was fast asleep when Leah, her dog sitter, reported for duty and didn’t register her arrival.
Leah, from Nashville, Tennessee, captured the adorable moment she put her hand in front of Rose and gently woke her up without alarming her. At first, the dog opened her eyes and then instantly started to sniff the air to understand what was going on.
As soon as Rose realized it was Leah, she started whining and wagging her tail with so much joy. She also couldn’t resist licking Leah’s hand too, just to show her appreciation. Once she fit in a big stretch, Rose sat up and welcomed her dog sitter properly.
The adorable video has melted hearts since it was shared on TikTok (@leahtous) on June 8. At the time of writing, it has generated more than 38,000 views and over 10,800 likes, as internet users praised Rose’s reaction for being so pure and loving.

When it comes to waking up a deaf dog, they can startle easily so it must be done carefully. The Oregon Humane Society recommends tugging on the edge of their blanket or placing a hand in front of his or her nose so they can get your scent. It is best for them to gently wake up on their own, rather than being abruptly forced to wake.
Offering them a treat and fuss when they do get up is also suggested, as this helps them build positive associations with being woken up.
When leaving the house or even just moving to a different room, the Oregon Humane Society also suggests letting the deaf dog know so they don’t go searching for you. This can cause unnecessary anxiety and concern for the dog. Communication with them, whether that be through hand signals or gestures, is important to help them manage and understand the world around them.
The online reaction has led to more than 65 comments on the TikTok video from people fawning over the deaf rescue pup.
One comment reads: “She is the preciousest of the precious!”
Another TikTok user wrote: “omg [oh my God] the little piggy snorts.”
A third person replied: “Such a sweet wake up interaction!”
One commenter added: “She would be my favorite.”
