The use of artificial intelligence (AI) within Amazon has expanded to “virtually every corner of the company,” President and Chief Executive Officer, Director Andy Jassy said in a letter posted to the website Tuesday.
“As we roll out more Generative AI and agents, it should change the way our work is done,” Jassy explained, adding “We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs.”
While the CEO said he’s not sure how it will all play out, he expects that the use of the program “will reduce our total corporate workforce as we get efficiency gains from using AI extensively across the company.”
Currently, there are more than 1,000 generative AI services and applications being used by Amazon, according to Jassy, for a variety of business needs.
Over 1.5 million people work for Amazon worldwide, according to data reviewed by Newsweek.
