Aaron Rodgers Fit With Steelers Called Into Question by NFL Legend

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers are official. He has signed his deal and participated with the team during mandatory minicamp.

With the deal now done, the speculation has begun about what to expect from the future Hall of Fame quarterback with his new team. Rodgers is still capable of putting up big numbers, as he showed flashes of last season, but he is no longer the elite superstar that he once was.

There have been some concerns about the fit between the two parties in 2025.

One NFL legend has spoken out and revealed some level of concern about the new partnership. That legend is none other than San Francisco 49ers great Steve Young.

Young revealed his concerns about the Steelers and Rodgers during an appearance this week on the “Rich Eisen Show.”

“It’s not a perfect match… for who he wants to be and what the Steelers are doing, even philosophically,” Young said. “So they’re going to have to figure out how to fit together. And you saw what happened with the Jets — didn’t fit very well. And I’m worried that they might not fit perfectly with Pittsburgh.”

He then went on to suggest how Pittsburgh and Rodgers can get the most of their new marriage.

“If your processing power is better than average, you want the ball out. So you need. So you need people that can get into space… go get people who are talented, who can get in there, find the space in the defense, and get the ball out.”

Those are very legitimate concerns. Rodgers played a solid season with the New York Jets in 2024, but the overall team success was lacking. He completed 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Heading into the 2025 season, the Steelers only have one goal. They want to compete for a championship. Rodgers could help them do just that if the right situation is in place.

Rodgers is a proven winner and has shown that year in and year out. While the last two years didn’t go well, he is now two years removed from the torn Achilles and is starting a fresh chapter with a long-term successful franchise.

It will be interesting to see if Pittsburgh and Rodgers can make the kind of run that they’re hoping to make this season.
