Report: 2 Teams Emerging as Top Kevin Durant Trade Suitors

Kevin Durant has become one of the most talked about names in the NBA heading into the offseason. It is widely expected that the Phoenix Suns will trade the longtime superstar forward and there are quite a few teams who would love to add him.

While many different teams have been mentioned as possible landing spots, there are some who are starting to stick out among the rest as the most likely destinations.

A new report has suggested two teams are emerging as top suitors.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves are those two teams. Both of them would love to add Durant as they look to contend for a championship.

“Things are obviously fluid at this stage, but the two teams most frequently cited as potential landing spots for Durant entering Saturday’s business, league sources say, were Minnesota and Miami,” Fischer wrote, as shared by NBA Central on X.

On the outside looking in, both the Heat and Timberwolves make perfect sense.

Miami is a team that is always looking to take a swing. Pat Riley has never held back from making a big-time move if it made sense for championship contention.

Minnesota, on the other hand, has made it to back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances but have come up short in both of those series. Durant could be the piece that pushes them over the top.

Even at 36 years old, Durant is still more than capable of being a go-to scorer. With either team he would instantly make them a contender to watch.

During the 2024-25 NBA season with the Suns, Durant played in 62 games. He averaged 26.6 points per game to go along with six rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks, while shooting 52.7 percent from the floor and knocking down 43 percent of his three-point shots.

While both teams make sense, there are likely other destinations that will make noise as the situation progresses. Durant is likely to be traded fairly early in the offseason. When the NBA Finals end, the trade talks will heat up even more.

Expect to continue hearing new rumors, speculation, and potential teams interested in the coming days. Durant is one of the best players in recent NBA history and most teams in the league would have interest in him if the price is right.
