A new mom’s hopeful attempt at self-care quickly turned into disaster after she accidentally left eyebrow dye on for 45 minutes.
Ginny Hogan (@ginnyhogan_), a stand-up comedian from New York, posted a reel on Instagram explaining how she had been forewarned that new moms are at the mercy of a newborn’s schedule and you shouldn’t try to do anything.
“It’s important to know that I was warned,” the 34-year-old said. She wasn’t exaggerating.

The warning came from her own mother who, Hogan said, “would routinely say things like ‘give up’ when I tried to make dinner or even boil water.”
Still, determined to reconnect with her pre-baby self, Hogan decided to dye her eyebrows.
“I dye my eyebrows regularly, and I didn’t feel like myself after giving birth, so I thought I’d try to get back into my old routine,” she told Newsweek.
But shortly after applying the dye—meant to stay on for just two to three minutes—her baby woke up crying.
Of course, Hogan didn’t think twice, and she picked her up to soothe her. Less than an hour later, her husband returned from the grocery store and took over.
She made a beeline for the bathroom and what followed was 10 frantic minutes of scrubbing in front of the mirror to try and remove the bold, black marks that had formed all over her eyebrows.
“I was laughing at myself,” Hogan told Newsweek. “It was just so silly; I’d forgotten I had the dye on until my husband got home, and I went to pee.”
Hogan’s reel has gone viral on Instagram, amassing 7.1 million views and leaving viewers in hysterics.
“I’m so sorry but that is so much worse than I expected it to be,” one user laughed.
Another commenter wrote, “The most accurate part of this story is the husband’s lack of comment when he got home.”
Many other moms chimed in with their advice and encouraged Hogan to forget to take care of yourself as a new parent.
“As a second time mom, [I] learned it’s ok to give myself the 2-3 minutes to finish a task (using the bathroom, brush my teeth, etc.) even if they start to cry. You got this,” a third wrote.
Hogan told Newsweek the reaction online was mostly positive. “People said it made them laugh,” she said. “One man left a rude comment about how I shouldn’t have done that, which felt unnecessary but also typical.”
Hogan was pleased to report the dye wasn’t permanent. “My eyebrows are back to normal, thankfully,” she told Newsweek. “And I didn’t really leave the house much for her first month, so no one saw me.”
