Steelers Receive Concerning Aaron Rodgers Take From Former NFL GM

Throughout the course of the NFL offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers and free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers have been linked often. Nearly every day, it seems that a new story comes out about the two parties.

As the season has continued to draw closer, the rumors have begun picking up. Some kind of move is expected to get done in the near future.

Rodgers will need to join the team soon in order to develop chemistry before the start of the season. The last thing he or the Steelers want is to have a slow start derail their year. However, there is no telling when Rodgers will sign.

With that in mind, one former NFL general manager spoke out with words of caution for Pittsburgh about Rodgers.

Ran Carthon, who was the general manager for the Tennessee Titans, revealed his thoughts on the matter. It’s certainly food for thought when it comes to the Steelers and their 2025 goals.

“Maybe Aaron Rodgers is a little further along with this Pittsburgh decision, nod-nod-wink-wink agreement, and even what the offense is,” Carthon said. “We don’t know that. However, I think it speaks volumes for the rest of the team. For a guy that you’re gonna be counting on as your quarterback, he’s not on the field with you right now when this is the time of year that you start to build the bond.”

During his two-year stint with the New York Jets, Rodgers never had a chance to truly develop the chemistry and consistency that he needed. The team never looked together and everyone seemed just a bit off with each other.

Not only do things like chemistry and timing need to be right, Rodgers will need to be respected by his teammates. Should he continue to hold off on signing with the Steelers, the other players may get the idea that he’s not all-in and fully sold on playing with them. That would not be an ideal scenario.

Last season with the Jets, Rodgers completed 63 percent of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Even at 41 years old, he would be more than capable of being a quarterback that could lead Pittsburgh on a deep playoff run.

Only time will tell, but the pressure is mounting on Rodgers to make a final decision. The Steelers can offer him a great situation and a chance to win a Super Bowl if everything goes according to plan. Now, he simply needs to buy in and sign a deal.
