Browns Legend Has Shocking Prediction About Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel

The Cleveland Browns are set to begin a major quarterback competition in training camp and preseason action. At this point, the team has five quarterbacks on the roster.

Andrew Berry and the front office have three veteran signal callers in Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Deshaun Watson. He also brought in two rookies in the 2025 NFL Draft in the form of Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel.

All five quarterbacks are going to be given an opportunity to win the starting job.

Sanders has been the most talked-about option since the draft. Fans want to see the former Colorado Buffaloes’ standout get on the field. Gabriel is another intriguing young talent that the Browns will need to find out what he is capable of becoming.

Ahead of the upcoming competition, one Cleveland legend spoke out with a shocking prediction.

Bernie Kosar, who starred for the Browns from 1985 through 1993, has spoken out with his thoughts on the situation. He doesn’t think either Sanders or Gabriel should be named the starter.

During an appearance on the “Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show,” Kosar revealed his feelings about the two rookie quarterbacks and the team’s track record of success with them playing early.

“The rookies, I think it’s absolutely best, even if you’re God, to not play right away, especially on a rough team. We haven’t developed a quarterback since 1999, since the team’s comeback,” Kosar said.

Many believe that Pickett has the inside track to win the starting job right now. However, the rookies and Flacco will have an opportunity to show head coach Kevin Stefanski that they deserve to start.

Over the years, Cleveland has struggled to make their young quarterbacks long-term starters. Most recently, the Browns have failed with Baker Mayfield and Deshaun Watson. They simply cannot afford to have the same thing happen with both Sanders and Gabriel.

If sitting them to begin the year is the right way to develop them correctly, that is what Cleveland should do. That being said, if one of the two rookies proves that they should start, the Browns should be scared of going that route.

Cleveland will begin training camp on July 22 with the rookies reporting and the veterans will follow and report on July 23.
