Millions of people face the threat of tornadoes on Tuesday as severe thunderstorms are forecast to strike numerous states.

The National Weather Service’s (NWS) Storm Prediction Center said that multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms are expected through Tuesday evening across the mid to deep South, Tennessee and lower Ohio Valley, and Cumberland Plateau.

The states facing the highest tornado threats include Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi.

The NWS warned that strong tornadoes, widespread damaging winds and severe hail are possible throughout the day.

The forecasts follow a wave of violent storms that left a deadly trail across parts of the U.S. over the weekend, resulting in at least 25 fatalities.

Kentucky accounted for 18 of those deaths, while multiple fatalities were also reported in Missouri.
