A golden retriever has left people in stitches after a long day at the beach left him exhausted—but he refused to let anyone know.

In a video with 1 million views on Instagram, Dwight the dog has melted hearts by pretending not to be tired so playtime can keep going.

Owner Ashley, 29, from Lake Tahoe, shared the video of Dwight sitting upright in the passenger seat, eyes heavy with sleep, looking like he’s trying his hardest to stay awake. The caption read: “My dog pretending he’s not tired after playing at the beach all day (so he can play more).”

Ashley, who didn’t give a surname, explained that five-year-old Dwight has been a beach enthusiast since he was just eight weeks old. “He’s the most loving and cuddly boy, and he has such a strong personality,” she told Newsweek. “He’s always acting very human-like and looking at me with all these expressive looks.”

Though Dwight gets to visit the lake up to three times a day, he still puts on a dramatic act when it’s time to go home. “He will walk as slow as possible back to the car and pout,” Ashley laughed. “He’s just a lake-loving guy.”

Many dogs love the water, and it’s not hard to see why. The American Kennel Club (AKC) shared some tips for any owners looking to take their pup for their first look at the ocean.

The website said: “To ensure a safe and enjoyable beach day, there are certain behaviors your dog should know. First, your dog should have a reliable recall. Many beach activities require letting your dog off-leash, so you need to be certain your dog will come back to you when called…

“‘Leave it’ is another important cue for your dog to understand. Leave it means your dog can’t eat something which could be garbage on the beach, a dead fish at the water’s edge, or food in somebody else’s picnic basket.”

The video, posted to Ashely’s account @dwightliketheoffice in March, left people in stitches, and they rushed to share reactions in the comments.

“It was just a long blink, he’s still ready to go!” joked viewer _andrewwwpitt. While truetumz said Dwight was: “Not sleeping, just recharging to back in action.”

“Bro’s fighting for his life,” said caoimhin09. While others couldn’t get enough of Dwight’s side-eye to check his owner isn’t watching as he closed his eyes: “That side eye at the end is like, what are you looking at?” said corey_m25.

Dwight’s owner said she shared the video, not just because her pup is “adorable,” but because he brings joy to others. “I love making people laugh, and I know Dwight brings joy when people see him,” Ashley said.

While Dwight has gained fame online, his biggest role is coming up soon. “Dwight is my best friend and we do everything together. I couldn’t imagine life without him,” Ashley said. “He’s actually about to be the ring bearer in my and my fiancé’s wedding. We are very excited.”
