Donald Trump Rages at Judges After Deportation Setback: ‘No Retribution’

President Donald Trump has criticized courts that have ruled against his deportation efforts, calling for “courageous justice” in the immigration system.

Trump said that millions of people would not be able to have trials, as the government already knew who the criminals were, and it was necessary to get them out of the country as soon as possible.

The Context

On Friday, a federal court ruling paused the Trump administration’s efforts to speed up deportations in Texas. District Judge David Briones in El Paso issued a temporary restraining order against the federal government’s attempts to remove a pair of Venezuelan migrants without hearings, after concerns were raised that deportations were being rushed without proper legal procedures.

What To Know

In response to the rulings, Trump said that the courts must be allowed to deport people without trials, and that the country would “no longer be the same” without the power.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: “We need Courageous JUSTICE in our Country. If the Courts don’t allow what we have been allowed to do for 250 years, America can no longer be the same. Crooked Joe Biden will have destroyed our Country with his Open Border MADNESS, and allowing criminals of every type to enter with no Retribution.

“Murderers, Drug Dealers, Gang Members, and even the Mentally Insane will make their home in our Country, wreaking havoc like we have never seen before. It is not possible to have trials for millions and millions of people.

“We know who the Criminals are, and we must get them out of the U.S.A. ¬— and FAST!”

Briones wrote that the plaintiffs had not “demonstrated they have any lawful basis” to detain the couples as “suspected alien enemies.”

His ruling ordered the government to give a 21-day notice before attempting to remove anyone in west Texas rather than the 12 hours that the government prefers.

In March 2025, Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport hundreds of Venezuelan migrants, whom the administration alleged were affiliated with the Tren de Aragua gang, a group the White House says poses a national security threat.

What People Are Saying

Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen said on X, formerly Twitter: “When you defy court orders and deny one man his Constitutional rights, you threaten them for ALL. Trump can post all he wants, but a federal judge said there’s ‘no evidence linking [deported Salvadoran migrant Kilmar] Abrego Garcia to MS-13 or to any terrorist activity.’ Trump needs to put up or shut up IN COURT.”

What Happens Next

The White House is expected to challenge the rulings in the coming days in order to speed up deportations.
