Joe Rogan Mocks Guest Who Called Him Out

In the most recent episode of his hit podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, comedian Joe Rogan appeared to take a jab at journalist, author, and commentator Douglas Murray over comments the latter made to another guest on a previous episode of the podcast.

Why It Matters

Rogan’s show boasts a wide audience, and its runaway success has made the comedian one of the most influential podcasters in the world.

What To Know

While discussing the Israel-Hamas war with his guest, fellow comedian Tim Dillon, Rogan appeared to mockingly impersonate Murray.

“The human toll is unreal,” Dillion said.

“There is an argument to be made that that level of devastation and death is worse than you talking to someone on your podcast.

“There is an argument to be made that… starvation… and people dying is worse than a podcast.”

Rogan interjected: “But wait a minute… before you say that—have you been there? You haven’t been,” Rogan said in what appeared to be an imitation of Murray’s British accent.

“You should at least have the courtesy of going there.”

Rogan’s comments appeared to be a reference to a conversation between Murray and Dave Smith, a comedian and political commentator, where Murray quizzed Smith on whether he’d visited the war zone.

“If you’re gonna spend a year and half talking about a place, you should at least do the courtesy of visiting it,” Murray told Smith during Rogan’s podcast, which was uploaded to YouTube just over a week prior to the most recent episode.

Murray also criticized Rogan on the podcast, telling the host, “It’s weird to mainstream very fringe views, constantly, and not give another side.”

Murray called out some of Rogan’s past guests, including YouTuber Ian Carroll for spreading conspiracy and antisemitic theories, and Darryl Cooper for making comments on Tucker Carlson‘s podcast that appeared sympathetic to Adolf Hitler.

In the time since the podcast with Smith, Murray penned a scathing opinion piece in The New York Post, in which he vented his frustration that “the guests [Rogan] has had on have been almost entirely anti-Ukraine and anti-Israel,” and accused them of spreading “false” information about the two conflicts.

He also doubled down on his comments to Smith, writing, “‘Oh, so you have to go to a country to comment on it, do you,’ said part of the internet.

“Again, the answer is obviously not.”

“But if it is your job, or you’re making it your job, then probably yes,” Murray continued.

What People Are Saying

J. Fisher, commenting on a clip of the exchange on X, formerly Twitter: “Right I’m sure Joe would be totally fine with someone who has never fought, been to the UFC, or trained in any martial art talking about fighting. ‘You’ve never fought?’ ‘You’ve never been to a competition’? OK, interesting…”

Since 2002, Rogan has provided color commentary for the UFC, or Ultimate Fighting Championship.

X user Johnny St.Pete wrote: “AMAZING.. Douglas Murray Getting rightfully clowned over his Smug Gatekeeping Elitist behavior by Joe Rogan & Tim Dillon.”

What Happens Next

Newsweek contacted Murray for comment via online form on Sunday.
