It’s almost time to turn our attention from the NBA Play-In Tournament to the playoffs, but first, we have Heat vs. Hawks and Mavericks vs. Grizzlies in primetime on Friday night.
While oddsmakers expect a nailbiter between Miami and Atlanta, the Grizzlies are clear favorites over the Mavs. The home team’s moneyline odds tonight are -250 or shorter across the board.
Earlier this week, Memphis gave Golden State all it could handle in a 121-116 loss in San Francisco.
The Mavericks, on the other hand, are coming off an emphatic road win over the Kings. Anthony Davis and Co. were clear underdogs in that one, but they jumped out to a 71-48 lead at halftime and never looked back.
The winner of tonight’s game, regardless of who moves on, will be a massive underdog vs. NBA Finals favorite Oklahoma City in the Western Conference’s 1-vs.-8 first-round matchup.

How To Bet Anthony Davis Player Props vs. Grizzlies
Anthony Davis 12+ Rebounds (-102 at FanDuel) — 1 unit
Davis has played in nine games since March 24, and Dallas has gone 6-3, including the play-in win over Sacramento on Wednesday.
Thanks to his three-point and free-throw shooting (3-for-6 from outside, 6-for-6 from the stripe), he finished the win over the Kings with an impressive line of 27 points, nine rebounds, one assist and three steals.
Those numbers are arguably even more notable given that he only shot 6-for-17 on 2-pointers (well below his career 2-point percentage of 54.6).
Rookie Zach Edey is coming off a strong rebounding night (17 boards, including seven on the offensive glass) against the Warriors, but he will face a much tougher test against the massive Mavs frontcourt led by Davis, Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford.
Dallas started five players who are 6-foot-5 or taller vs. Sacramento. That lineup’s success against the Kings means that Davis, PJ Washington, Naji Marshall and Lively will get plenty of run tonight as well.
Don’t be surprised if the Mavs’ collective size forces Edey into foul trouble. If that happens, Davis could feast both offensively and on the glass, as he enters tonight with 23 points or more in four of his last five games.
Also keep in mind that in two games against Memphis this year (both of which took place before he was traded from LA to Dallas), Davis exploded. He finished with 40 points and 16 rebounds on December 15, and he had 21 points and 14 boards against the Grizz on November 13.
The real question is whether to take his rebounds, points, or points + rebounds prop. For the safest play at favorable odds, take Davis to grab 12 boards or more at essentially even money at FD.
Mavericks vs. Grizzlies Pick, Best Bets
Dallas will continue to miss Kyrie Irving until he returns (whenever that is). But the biggest issue over the past few months hasn’t been poor play when otherwise healthy, but how rarely they have been healthy.
Davis, Gafford, Washington and Lively all looked close to 100 percent against Sacramento, though, and I think this version of the Mavs will pull another upset tonight.
The Grizzlies were impressive, albeit in a losing effort vs. Golden State, earlier this week, but that was largely due to how well they hit the offensive glass. Memphis rebounded 16 of its 44 misses — an impressive 36 percent — and shot 12-for-26 from outside to push the Warriors until the final minutes.
I don’t see them rebounding that well and staying that hot from outside against this physical Mavericks squad, though.
Give me Dallas to cover, and let’s also make a small play on them winning outright at longer than 2-to-1 odds.
Mavericks vs. Grizzlies Best Bets:
- Mavericks +6 (-106 at FanDuel) — 1 unit
- Mavericks ML (+220 at DK) — 0.5 units
