A 3-year-old girl finally got to ride the rollercoaster of her dreams – but it didn’t go quite the way she’d expected.
After two years of waiting, measuring and obsessively watching YouTube ‘POV’ videos of the ride, Addie had finally met the height requirement for Slinky Dog Dash at Disney.
In a reel posted by her mom Kiersten DeCook (@kierstenbrooketravels), Addie sprints excitedly to get in the queue but when she’s on the ride, it’s a different story. Addie is gripping onto her seat completely terrified.

DeCook, 29, told Newsweek that her daughter’s obsession with Slinky Dog started during a trip to Disney when she had just turned two.
All the older children in their group got to ride the rollercoaster but Addie was too little. “I stayed out with her, but she was devastated,” DeCook said.
A Disney cast member handed Addie a special pass that she could use when she grew tall enough, leading to two long years of asking her mom to measure her all the time.
The family made Slinky Dog the first ride of the trip because Addie was so excited. “I thought her reaction was going to be the complete opposite of what it was,” DeCook said.
Things started off well – Addie was a little nervous but “pumped” according to her mom. Once the fast turns and surprise launches kicked in though, DeCook could see that it was becoming too much for her toddler.
“Her face went from excited to completely horrified – it was honestly even faster than I remembered,” she told Newsweek. “At one point, I noticed she was holding her breath, so I leaned over and asked if she was having fun. She quietly said ‘no’ and my heart sank.”
When the coaster pulled back into the station, Addie was overwhelmed and burst into tears.
“I felt awful. As a mom, all you want is for your kid to have fun. But I also knew how excited she’d been for this ride, and it broke my heart that it didn’t turn out the way she’d hoped,” DeCook said.
The clip, which has been viewed over 65,000 times, was met with a kind and understanding response from other Instagram users, seeing the fun in the clip.
“Know she was scared but that little scared face is too cute,” one user laughed.
Another mom said that her daughter was also excited to ride Slinky Dog but now refuses.
“My daughter sometimes has this reaction to rides but then asks to do it again,” a third commenter wrote.
“I think people really relate to the whole ‘expectations vs reality’ of some travel experiences,” DeCook added.
Thankfully, DeCook thinks her daughter will grow to like rollercoasters eventually. “Later in the trip we went on other coasters and she had a blast, so I think we are due to give Slinky Dog another chance soon.”
