Deion Sanders is a former NFL legend and is trying to build up a similar legendary status in the college football game. While Colorado itself hasn’t had significant success, Deion has at least produced some fascinating NFL prospects.

In this year’s draft, two of the most talked about prospects are his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, and two-way player Travis Hunter. At a press conference for Colorado’s pro day, Deion gave a convincing explanation as to why both players should go at the top of the NFL draft come late April.
“I think we have the most qualified guys in the draft. They’re not a risk. Shedeur been doing it year after year … ain’t nobody like Travis … the surest bets in this draft are those two young men,” Deion stated.
The main point of his explanation was the two players are two extremely safe prospects. They have been producing for years in the college game, and also are unique compared to other prospects.
With Travis Hunter, this is definitely the case, as he can potentially work at two separate positions, or even both at the same time. That makes him about as safe as possible of a pick, not even taking into account his clearly elite football IQ and athleticism.
With Shedeur, it is hard to say he is a safe prospect, as every quarterback coming out of the NFL drafts seems like they have a chance to bust or a chance to become a superstar early in their careers.

Plenty of quarterbacks in recent memory who seemed like can’t miss prospects didn’t shine right away. Trevor Lawrence and Caleb Williams stand out in that regard, although both have plenty of time to right the ship and play at an elite level going forward.
Even Cam Ward, who seems like the consensus number-one pick in the draft currently, has plenty of question marks. The quarterback position, given its importance in football, is very easy to nitpick for NFL scouts.
However, being the son of a former NFL player should help Sanders a lot when he makes it to the league. That does give him a higher potential baseline of NFL knowledge and understanding that most other quarterbacks didn’t have entering the league.

In that sense, Sanders is a pretty safe pick. He won’t succumb to the pressure of the NFL and has a mentor who can help him reach the heights he wants to reach. Whether Sanders will succeed will come down to his landing spot and pure talent level rather than other factors that have limited quarterbacks in the past.
No matter how people view Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter as prospects, Deion Sanders did make a convincing argument as to why teams shouldn’t pass on them, worthy of a mic drop.
