When his wife came to him saying she needed a new phone because she had run out of storage, Redditor ItsGettinBreesy took a look at the settings on her iPhone 13 and was stunned.
In a screenshot, shared on Reddit‘s r/mildlyinfuriating subreddit, the iPhone settings revealed the storage issue, she had nearly 512GB in use, with a staggering 253.92GB dedicated solely to the Messages app.
“I checked because my wife needs an upgrade (her phone is currently an iPhone 13) and she said she needed the 1TB phone. I was shocked and didn’t think she knew what she was talking about. Imagine my reaction when I saw the storage,” the anonymous Redditor told Newsweek.
With a mix of disbelief and humor, he laughed: “[I was] shocked. I told her we are not paying an extra $400 so she can store old messages.”

His post, which quickly gained traction on the r/mildlyinfuriating subreddit, showcased an iPhone storage breakdown where Messages consumed more space than Photos, Spotify, or Netflix. Other significant storage hogs included 33.92GB of Photos, 16.37GB of Spotify, and an unexpected 7.63GB in Notes.
The revelation left Reddit users in stitches, sparking a flood of comments.
“253GB in MESSAGES!? Is she texting the entire country or something?” said viewer StrawberryFields3729.
While others were equally perplexed. Redditor Initial-Public-9289 wrote: “7.63 GB in Notes?” and polishedrelish joked: “Those messages have ancient runes in ’em.”
One user, Dodoz44, speculated on the cause of the bloated Messages app: “She doesn’t text gifs. She texts entire movies, in 8K.”
While the situation remains unresolved, ItsGettinBreesy mentioned that his wife is still processing the idea of deleting her old messages. “I’m not sure if she’s deleted yet. She said she needed time to process that she’s getting rid of the messages.”
His was also delighted by the reaction from the community on Reddit. “I love Reddit. I’m not a big social media person and it’s my only social media channel. I like to give back to the Reddit community,” he said.
This isn’t the first time a man has stunned the internet with what he found on his partner’s phone. Earlier this year 28-year-old Max was stunned when he looked through his girlfriend’s phone and saw her unconventional home screen layout.
Tay’s phone featured dozens of apps labeled with names like “Folder” or “Utilities,” many containing other seemingly random apps inside of them. “I get a kick out of color coding, labeling, and organizing, whereas Tay maintains order without any sort of system or structure. It’s like a yin and yang interplay we’ve always shared,” he told Newsweek.
