Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has an important task at hand this offseason, and that is to get a deal done with perennial edge rusher and star Micah Parsons. Jones opened up about the deal, stating that he was speaking to Parsons alone without his agent present.

According to NFL insider Ari Meirov, “#Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been negotiating directly with Micah Parsons on an extension, offering him a contract that would make him the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL, per @clarencehilljr. Here’s the twist: The Cowboys conducted all negotiations without Parsons’ agent and haven’t communicated with him since the combine. Parsons will not sign without his agent’s approval (which is the smart move).”
The comments were already a bit confusing, especially given that Jones appeared to sound as if he was trying to get a deal done on the sly. Now, Parsons himself has fired back about the situation, confirming he would not do a deal without his agent.
Facts!! David is the best and I will not be doing any deal without @DavidMulugheta involved! Like anyone with good sense I hired experts for a reason. There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract… https://t.co/nxKNSIXLvt

Parsons confirmed the original report from Clarence Hill while also stating:
“Facts!! David is the best and I will not be doing any deal without @DavidMulugheta involved! Like anyone with good sense I hired experts for a reason. There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract negotiation.”

Though Jones feigned ignorance on Mulugheta’s name, Parsons confirmed that no deal would be done without his agent being involved.
The Cowboys gave out massive extensions to both Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb in 2024, and now Parsons is due up for a massive deal. Considering his elite level at the pass rush position, he will likely eclipse the deal that the Cleveland Browns gave to Myles Garrett.
Garrett requested a trade, before changing his tune and agreeing to a four-year, $160 million extension, which pays him $40 million per season. Garrett had the record of biggest non-QB contract in the NFL, until that was surpassed by the four-year, $161 million contract that Cincinnati Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase was awarded.
Now, the belief is that Jones is ready to pay Parsons an even bigger contract, which means he is going to have to open the checkbook and give the star defensive end a contract that surpasses $161 million and four years.
Whatever happens, Jones is not going to be able to get any contract done without the presence or involvement of Parsons’ agent.
