Who Are Rex Heuermann’s Wife and Children? What We Know About Family

Rex Heuermann, the suspect arrested in the deaths of multiple women in Long Island, lived in Massapequa Park with his wife, stepson and daughter for decades.

Heuermann’s family life is detailed in a new Netflix documentary series released Monday, entitled Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer.

Why It Matters

Heuermann, 61, is facing murder charges in connection with the deaths of seven women between 1993 and 2010. He was arrested in 2023.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

What To Know

Heuermann married Asa Ellerup, who is originally from Iceland, in 1996. Ellerup has a son named Christopher Sheridan from a previous marriage. Rex and Ellerup have a daughter together named Victoria Heuermann.

Ellerup filed for divorce from Rex following his arrest and has attended several of his court appearances.

“After 27 years with Mr. Heuermann, Ms. Ellerup maintains the belief that her estranged husband is not capable of committing these heinous acts,” Robert Macedonio, an attorney for Ellerup, previously told Newsweek.

Ellerup and her children returned to their Massapequa Park home after officials concluded a search of the property lasting multiple days. As of November of last year, both children still reside at the home with Ellerup, according to PEOPLE.

Victoria, 28, graduated from the New York Institute of Technology with a degree in fine arts, according to her LinkedIn profile. She previously worked as a sales associate at Macy’s. The New York Times also reported that Victoria worked for her father’s architecture consulting firm prior to his arrest.

Sheridan is 35 years old. Ellerup revealed that he has developmental disabilities in a 2023 interview with the New York Post.

Ellerup, 61, previously worked at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, according to The U.S. Sun.

Vess Mitev, an attorney for Sheridan and Victoria, previously told Newsweek that this is a “dark time” in their lives.

“They’re two young adults that are caught in the cross hairs of this deeply unfortunate case that they have nothing to do with other than they are related to Mr. Heuermann,” Mitev said.

Court documents said hair from Ellerup and Victoria was found near the wrist of Valerie Mack. Heuermann was charged with Mack’s death in December of last year. Ellerup and Victoria, who was a young child at the time, are not accused of any wrongdoing in the case.

Officials have also determined that several of Rex’s alleged victims went missing while his family was out of town.

What People Are Saying

Macedonio, in comments to Newsweek following Rex’s June 2023 indictment: “Today’s indictment further illustrates that Asa Ellerup has no involvement in any of the alleged crimes that her estranged husband, Rex Heuermann, has been charged with.”

Mitev, referring to Sheridan and Victoria in previous comments to Newsweek: “They look forward to the legal process running its course, whatever that course is.”

What Happens Next

Heuermann’s next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday. A trial date has not been set yet.
