The San Diego Padres look to finish a four-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves when the two teams meet at Petco Park on Sunday night.

The Braves (0-3) and Padres (3-0) meet on Sunday night to finish their first series of the 2025 MLB season. This is not exactly how the Braves thought they would start the season, but the Padres will obviously take it. They won the opener 7-4 on Thursday and then edged out two straight one-run games on Friday and Saturday.
San Diego won the season opener 7-4, fueled by a four-run seventh inning from the Padres. Starting pitcher Michael King got off to a rough start, allowing three runs and four hits in 2.2 innings of work, but the Padres were able to settle down after that. Jackson Merrill ended the game with a team-high 4 RBIs, while Gavin Sheets hit a solo home run.
In the second game, the Padres won a closer 4-3 win. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth each had home runs for San Diego, while starting pitcher Dylan Cease struck out seven and allowed three runs in 4.1 innings.
The Padres will now turn to Nick Pivetta in the last game of the series to clinch the sweep. Pivetta will be making his first start with the Padres after spending time with the Red Sox for four-plus seasons. Pivetta went just 6-12 with a 4.14 ERA last year.
The Braves will counter with AJ Smith-Sawyer, who will be making his seventh career start. He had five starts in 2023 and just one in 2024. He is a combined 1-0 with a 3.64 ERA in those six starts.
