Min Woo Lee Called Out by PGA Tour Pro for Houston Open Pace of Play

Alejandro Tosti started the final round of the Houston Open in second place, but by the 16th hole he had dropped seven places on the leaderboard due to his poor performance. However, the Argentine made headlines for other reasons during the day.

Tosti complained about the alleged slow play of the leader, Min Woo Lee, on the 8th hole, and he apparently did not do it in the best way. He also had a negative interaction during the day with another of his colleagues, Ryan Fox.

Tosti, Lee and Fox played the final round together in the final group. On the par-5 8th, the Australian sent his tee shot wide right and it took him several minutes to find his ball and decide if it was playable or not.

Tosti felt the process took longer than it should have and complained to a rules official. Eventually, Lee took a penalty stroke, and according to Golfweek, the entire sequence took seven minutes.

Golf Channel cameras captured the moment Tosti made his complaint to the rules official. At the same time, legendary caddie Jim “Bones” MacKay, acting as an on-course reporter, revealed that Tosti had already had a run-in with Fox on the first hole.

According to Bones, Tosti was “a little disrespectful” to Fox.

“It’s going to be very interesting given what Min Woo’s dealing with with this lead, trying to win for the first time, what takes place out here on this back nine,” Mackay added.

Several reports indicate that after this point, Tosti began to play deliberately slow, noticeably slowing the pace of play in the final group.

The truth is that Min Woo Lee saved par on the hole. The Australian added three more birdies on 9, 12 and 13. At 16, he was 21-under and two shots in front with three holes to play.

But an untimely water ball on the par-5 16th cost him a shot. As of this writing, Lee is 20-under on the 17th green with Scottie Scheffler breathing down his neck, one shot back.

Tosti, meanwhile, made his second birdie of the day on the 8th. However, by that time he had already carded two bogeys, which began his freefall down the leaderboard.

Over the next seven holes, the Argentine carded two more birdies and two more bogeys to keep his round at even par through 16. He is tied for 9th with three holes to play.

Min Woo Lee is looking for his first victory in 56 PGA Tour starts. His best results to date are two second-place finishes.
