San Diego won Game 1 7-4, fueled by a four-run seventh inning for the winning team. Starting pitcher Michael King got off to a rough start, allowing three runs and four hits in 2.2 innings of work, but the Padres were able to settle down after that. Jackson Merrill ended the game with a team-high 4 RBIs, while Gavin Sheets hit a solo home run.
In the second game, the Padres were again victorious, albeit in a closer 4-3 win. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth had home runs for San Diego, while starting pitcher Dylan Cease struck out seven and allowed three runs in 4.1 innings. So far, the bullpen has been fantastic for the Padres.
In Game 3, Atlanta is set to send Spencer Schwellenbach to the mound. He was 8-7 last season with a 3.35 ERA, while the Padres will go for the sweep with Randy Vasquez, who was 4-7 in 2024 with a 4.87 ERA.
