Liquid Eggs Recalled Due to Possible Cleaning Solution Contamination

Cargill Kitchen Solutions is recalling approximately 212,268 pounds of liquid egg products that may contain a sodium hypochlorite cleaning solution, as announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Friday. The recall affects specific Egg Beaters and Bob Evans products produced in March 2025.

Newsweek contacted Cargill via email on Saturday for comment.

Why It Matters

Though classified as a Class III recall, this removal from market involves a substantial quantity of widely distributed food products.

A Class III recall involves a situation where use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences, or the risk is negligible.

The contamination was discovered following a tip to FSIS. After investigating the cleaning solution’s contents, scientists determined it posed negligible health risks, resulting in the Class III recall designation.

No adverse reactions have been reported to date.

What People Are Saying

FSIS Statement: “FSIS does not expect any adverse health effects for Class III recalled products… however, anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.”

Cargill Kitchen Solutions: “The company has established a consumer hotline (1-844-419-1574) and email contact (media@cargill.com) to address questions and concerns about the recalled products.”

What Happens Next

FSIS will conduct recall effectiveness checks to verify that Cargill properly notified customers and removed affected products from the market. Consumers who purchased these products should not consume them but instead discard them or return them to their place of purchase.
