A pair of Denver Nuggets stars found themselves on the league’s injury report ahead of a clash against the rebuilding Utah Jazz on Friday.

Seven-time All-Star Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and standout point guard Jamal Murray could both miss out what would normally be an absolute slam dunk of a regular season win, in a matchup between two teams headed in polar opposite directions.

Per a recent league injury report, Jokic was considered merely probable to play through a lingering left ankle impingement. Now, Jokic has been given the green light to obliterate Utah’s frontcourt.

The 6-foot-11 superstar, who’s won the league’s MVP award in three of the last four seasons and numbers among the favorites to earn it yet again this season, finds himself approaching historic statistical territory when he does play this year.

Through 63 healthy games for Denver, Jokic is averaging 29.3 points on .576/.415/.803 shooting splits, 12.8 rebounds, 10.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.7 blocks a night. Should he finish the season with that triple-double, he’ll become only the third player in league history to do so — along with new Nuggets teammate Russell Westbrook and Hall of Fame former Cincinnati Royals/Milwaukee Bucks point guard Oscar Robertson.

Jokic needs to suit up for just two more games to be named to a seventh All-NBA squad for his efforts this season.

Murray, meanwhile, was questionable to suit up through what’s been diagnosed as right hamstring tightness.

He has officially been ruled out for the matchup.

Across 65 contests this year, the Kentucky product is logging averages of 21.6 points while slashing .476/.396/.887, 6.0 dimes, 3.8 boards, 1.4 swipes and 0.5 rejections a night.

The tanking Jazz are sitting as many of their good players as they possibly can, in a naked bid to bottom out and maximize their lottery odds for what’s expected to be a stacked 2025 NBA Draft.

One-time All-Star combo forward Lauri Markkanen, Utah’s best player, remains sidelined while he continues to recondition himself from an illness that has kept him on the sidelines since March 17.

Former Sixth Man of the Year Jazz combo guard Jordan Clarkson is done for the year with left plantar fasciitis. Combo forward John Collins will sit out Friday’s action with a sprained left ankle. Two-way players Elijah Harkless and Micah Porter are putting in work with the Jazz’s NBAGL affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars.

According to Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune, starting Jazz center Walker Kessler will sit out with an illness.

With a league-worst 16-58 record, Utah is hoping to stack up losses during its final eight contests to close the season. Duke power forward Cooper Flagg is the seen as the biggest prize in June’s draft.

At 46-28, Denver occupies the No. 3 seed in the West, 1.5 games clear of the Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies, the Nos. 4 and 5 seeds. The Nuggets are angling to secure their third straight 50-win season, and to make a push towards their second title ever with Jokic and Murray leading the way.
