Cardinals Add Two Players to IR Ahead of Sunday’s 49ers Game

Ahead of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon has announced CB Garrett Williams and DL L.J. Collier have been added to IR.

While it’s unclear what happened to Collier, Williams sustained a knee injury during the team’s clash with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, colliding with safety Budda Baker.

Fortunately for Cardinals fans, it isn’t all bad news. According to Gannon, both Williams and Collier have a chance to return to action before the end of the season.

Of course, per the NFL‘s IR rules, both players must miss a minimum of four games before being eligible to return.

In the meantime, Max Melton, who was carted off the field with a knee injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s game, will be practicing today, according to ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss; however, it’s unclear whether he will be suiting up for Sunday’s game in The Bay.

As Gannon explained, Melton is day-to-day going forward.

If Melton winds up being sidelined for the team’s Week 3 game against the 49ers on Sunday, look for Denzel Burke to be on the field once again.

As Gannon explained to members of the press, he was impressed with Burke on Sunday following Melton’s exit.

“Denzel played a bunch because after Max went out, he came in [and] subbed in for Max, so his role changed after, if I’m correct, not playing a snap Week 1. He played I think 66 plays or something like that.

“That’s a lot of snaps. I think he’ll take a jump from this last week to the next time he plays. He’ll play better, but I thought he did a good job.”

With the Cardinals and the 49ers jockeying for position in the NFC West standings, Sunday’s game will certainly be a big one for both teams.
