A video of a dog waiting patiently for its owner at the hospital emergency room has left internet users sobbing.

While many people might have a loved one or family member waiting for them at the hospital, Aris Gregory captured the unlikely companion one man brought along with him. Gregory, from Oklahoma, was at the ER with her family in September 2024, and she captured a tear-jerking video of a man’s dog waiting under the chairs for him to return.

Gregory had watched as the man was wheeled in on a stretcher, accompanied by his beloved pup. When the owner eventually got pulled into a consultation room, Gregory told Newsweek that his dog “waited so patiently” the whole time.

“The pup was first wheeled in on a stretcher with its owner, although I didn’t get a video of that for privacy reasons,” Gregory said. “It was fairly busy that day, and paramedics had the owner wait in the lobby briefly before taking him back. The pup stayed there the entire time and was still there waiting when we were done with our own visit.”

At one point, Gregory and her 3-year-old son went over to the man and asked if they could pet the dog. She can’t remember what the dog was called, adding that the whole day was “a complete blur”—understandably so.

However, her children were so excited to see the dog in the hospital and loved getting to enjoy some quality time with it.

“The owner did talk with us briefly when we went over, and he said the dog would be fine. Our oldest son was so excited by the pup, and we were touched at how sweet it was, and how kind the paramedics were,” Gregory continued.

She recently came across the video in her favorites folder and couldn’t resist sharing it on TikTok (@aris.jade). The clip shows the dog lying on the floor beneath a row of chairs, with an overlay caption explaining that it was “waiting outside the ER for its owner” after being brought in together on a stretcher.

The video has melted plenty of hearts online, leading to more than 764,100 views and over 222,900 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

The caption alongside the clip reads: “I think about this often … he said that dog was his family.”

Following this encounter, Gregory also reached out to some local Facebook community groups to ask how the man and his dog were doing. Unfortunately, she didn’t gather any information and is still unsure.

Nonetheless, what was a stressful day also brought her this precious memory, which she tells Newsweek will always remain “such a heartwarming moment” for her.

Since the footage was shared on TikTok on August 14, it has captured a great deal of attention and generated over 375 comments so far.

One comment reads: “I’m glad they let her wait.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “WE DO NOT DESERVE DOGS. This tore me up.”

A third person replied: “Here i am again crying for a dog I don’t know.”
