A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent was severely injured after he was hit by a suspect’s car, during a Friday traffic stop in Chicago.
The suspect was shot by officers at the scene, and later pronounced dead.
An ICE spokesperson told Newsweek that officers had stopped a man, who has not been identified, as part of a “targeted law enforcement activity.” However, they said the individual had “resisted” and “attempted to drive his vehicle into the arrest team, striking an officer and subsequently dragging him as he fled the scene.” “Fearing for his life, the officer discharged his firearm and struck the subject,” the spokesperson added.
Both the officer and the suspect were rushed to a local hospital where the suspect was declared dead and the officer, who sustained severe injuries, remains in a stable condition.
The ICE spokesperson slammed activists for “encouraging illegal aliens to resist law enforcement” which they warned “not only spread misinformation, but also undermine[s] public safety, the safety of our officers and those being apprehended.”
