The Kansas City Chiefs just can’t seem to shake their recent history of injuries to their top wide receivers.
Rashee Rice missed 13 regular-season games last season after suffering an LCL tear from a collision with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown missed 15 regular-season games after suffering a shoulder separation during the preseason.
It seemed like Kansas City was heading for a similar fate during Friday’s season opener in Sao Paulo, Brazil, after WR Xavier Worthy exited after just one series following an accidental but brutal collision with tight end Travis Kelce.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Worthy was swept clear off his feet after accidentally running into the 6-foot-5, 250-pound Kelce as they both crossed over the middle of the field.

After being escorted to the locker room for further evaluation, the Chiefs later announced during the second quarter that Worthy was downgraded to out for the game with a shoulder injury.
If the second-year wideout misses any significant time, it’ll be a gut-punch to the Chiefs offense already spread thin at wide receiver.
Rookie Jalen Royals missed Friday’s game with a knee injury, and Rice is out until Week 7 while serving his six-game suspension for violating the NFL‘s personal conduct policy.
But if the Chiefs are desperate enough, one free-agent wide receiver is ready and willing to step in and take Worthy’s spot.
“No 🧢, chiefs I’m a free agent, I swear I could help yall,” former Pro Bowl wide receiver Allen Robinson II tweeted during the game.

The 32-year-old Robinson hasn’t played December 30, 2024, when he was a member of the Detroit Lions. The Penn State alum caught just three passes for 30 yards last season.
After a breakout 1,400-yard, 14-touchdown season in just his second year in 2015 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Robinson had two more 1,000-yard seasons with the Chicago Bears in 2019 and 2020, but his career went downhill after that as he bounced around with the Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers and Lions.
It’s not known whether Worthy’s injury will force him to miss significant time, but if he does, it’s a virtual certainty the Chiefs will look to add another wideout. However, the chances of them adding Robinson are pretty slim.
