Gilbert Arenas’ Bold Comparison for Micah Parsons Trade

Over the past week, the Dallas Cowboys have been a hot topic in the NFL following their latest franchise-altering move. While giving his thoughts on the situation, one former NBA star made some iconic comparisons.

The Cowboys were at odds with Parsons for months over a contract extension, and finally put an end to the saga last Thursday. Jerry Jones ultimately decided to cut ties with the star linebacker, dealing him to the Green Bay Packers. In exchange, Dallas landed a former Pro-Bowler in Kenny Clark and two future first-round picks.

In recent years, the Cowboys have had multiple dragged-out affairs when it came time to hand out a sizable contract. This approach ended up backfiring for them this time, as it completely destroyed their relationship with a high-level talent.

Following this blockbuster trade, Dallas will look to put it in the rear view as they are slated to kick off the 2025 season agains the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night.

Gilbert Arenas compares Micah Parsons trade to LeBron James and Babe Ruth

Earlier this week, ex-NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas and Skip Bayless launched their new NFL talk show. As expected, the Parsons trade has been a major talking point in their early episodes.

Bayless, a known Cowboys supporter, has not been shy about his feelings on the trade. He is one of the few who feel Dallas made the right decision by moving Parsons instead of giving him a historic contract.

On the other hand, Arenas sounded off on the Cowboys for going through with such a trade. He brought up two of the most iconic athletes in sports when making comparisons.

“I didn’t know trading a generational talent was actually smart for your franchise,” Arenas said. “Cleveland lost LeBron, they sucked until LeBron came back. The Red Sox, they got rid of who? [Babe Ruth]. You think you can trade the gold standard of his position.”

Given the nature of how things unfolded between Parsons and the Cowboys, each side going their separate ways was likely the best outcome. That said, it could still be a move that could come back to haunt the franchise.

As an elite-level talent just entering his prime, Parsons is going to be a force in the league for years to come. Now, the Cowboys have to watch him potentially turn the Packers into a budding Super Bowl contender for the foreseeable future.

Dallas will have its first chance to prove it can fill the void left by Parsons against the defending champs.
