Eric Trump continues to leave the door open for a potential future in politics, hinting at the possibility of a Trump family “dynasty” extending beyond his father, current U.S. President Donald Trump.
In an interview with Nikkei Asia on Sunday the president’s second son refused to rule out a presidential run at some stage, though he added that he liked the commercial world.
While he has downplayed a personal bid in the immediate future, his growing international presence and comments in the media have fueled speculation he may have political ambitions of his own.
Why It Matters
Eric Trump’s public presence has expanded significantly in recent months. As executive vice president of the Trump Organization and CEO of World Liberty Financial, he has been actively promoting his company’s cryptocurrency ventures in Asia. These moves not only grow his business footprint, but also place him on the global stage as a prominent member of the Trump brand.
The ongoing visibility of Trump’s children, particularly Eric and older brother Donald Trump Jr., maintains the family’s presence in both the political and economic spotlight. This could lay the groundwork for a future candidacy—be that from Eric or another family member.

What To Know
In the Nikkei Asia interview, Eric Trump discussed his company’s plans to expand its cryptocurrency operations in the Asia-Pacific region.
He described a vision of global financial reach rooted in U.S. values, saying: “There is so much demand out there for dollar-backed stablecoins. We want to be the leader of that movement.”
He also pointed out that his father’s administration would likely support regulatory changes that allow U.S. blockchain-based assets to flourish overseas.
The initiative could align with a broader strategy of projecting American financial influence, particularly through digital currency, in line with broader Republican efforts to shape global markets.
It was at the end of the interview that he touched on the issue of presidential ambitions. “I’m not ruling it out,” he said, adding: “I’m not saying no, but I’m also not saying yes.”
It’s not the first time he’s mentioned the idea. Speaking to the BBC in July, Eric Trump said a family member “could… certainly” run for president someday, when asked directly about the family’s future in politics.
When pressed on whether he personally would run, he responded: “I very much doubt I would even consider in ’28,” describing politics as “brutal” and implying a preference to remaining focused on his business interests.
What’s Next
Eric Trump’s continued involvement in international finance, coupled with his high-profile surname and increasing media presence, ensures he will remain a figure of political interest. While he appears to have ruled out a presidential run in the 2028 election, observers are watching for moves that might cement his long-term positioning within the Republican Party.
