With a little over a week until the season opener, there is one major question hanging over the Dallas Cowboys. Will Micah Parsons take the field after an offseason full of drama?

Dating back to March, Parsons has had discussions with the Cowboys about a contract extension. Since then, it’s slowly evolved into a messy standoff between player and organization. Now, with the regular season looming, it remains unknown what the star linebacker plans to do.

While Parsons has been around since the start of camp, he hasn’t been fully active. He’s been dealing with back tightness that has left him limited in his participation. The injury doesn’t appear to be serious, but recent reports indicate that Parsons did undergo an MRI last week.

Although the current situation doesn’t look promising, one key member of the Cowboys is trying to remain optimistic.

Brian Schottenheimer weighs in on Micah Parsons’ availability ahead of Week 1

Throughout this ordeal, head coach Brian Schottenheimer has been put in a very tough spot. Along with having to prepare for his first season at the helm, he’s constantly had to address the saga with Parsons behind the scenes.

Even though Parsons hasn’t practiced for the Cowboys, Schottenheimer believes the star linebacker will be on the field against the Eagles. While speaking with the media Tuesday, he opened up on wanting to get him back in the mix in the very near future.

“At the end of the day, we want him out there as soon as possible,” Schottenheimer said, per The Athletic. “When he’s feeling up to it and all those things is a big factor into it. Every day that he can get out there and get reps would be great, but I do think very strongly that him being around, doing the walk-throughs, does help. There’s communication, there’s signals that come from the sideline, there’s communication from player to player. He’s getting all those things.

Schottenheimer is aware that Parsons will be limited if he plays Week 1. However, he believes the All-Pro can be out there enough to have an impact on the game.

“There will be a ramp-up plan for him,” Schottenheimer said. “When he lines up out there to play, do I think he would play 75 plays and every play? Probably not. I don’t think that that’s real. But I do think that he can be very disruptive, like we all know.”

As of now, Parsons has shown no indication that he’ll join his teammates on the field when they face off against the defending champions next week.
