Shedeur Sanders Quarterback Position Revealed by Browns Depth Chart

The Cleveland Browns have released their first unofficial depth chart heading into Week 1 of the regular season. One of the biggest question marks regarding the depth chart is the order of quarterbacks, especially where Shedeur Sanders ranks.

According to the depth chart, Sanders comes in at fourth behind Joe Flacco as the starter, Kenny Pickett as the backup, and Dillon Gabriel as the third-string.

It is not at all shocking that Sanders is in the fourth slot, and this does unofficially confirm that he has a lot of work to do to become the starter for the team. Even more than that, he has work to do just to get ahead of Gabriel as the team’s potential third-string emergency quarterback when Week 1 rolls around.

Sanders spoke to reporters about his current situation, handling his position with humility and grace. The young rookie opened up about blocking father, Deion Sanders, from seeing him at practice.

“I look at it in my own point of view. I don’t want him coming to see me right now because I want to get where I’m going, then for him to see me. I don’t want him coming to see me get a couple reps in and he is cheering like a good dad. You can’t be proud of me right now. I got to get where I’m going and I know there is a lot I got to do to get there,” Shedeur stated

For all the negative attention and headlines that Shedeur has made, especially relating to Deion, he has kept a level head and has worked hard in camp. He will just need to put in the work to ensure he lands a spot on the roster and can eventually start.

Flacco being the starter was expected, but even more so due to injuries. Sanders was held out of practice due to shoulder soreness over the weekend, Pickett is still recovering from a hamstring injury, and Gabriel is now dealing with hamstring tightness of his own.

With injuries to half the room, Sanders does have a chance to carve out more playing time this weekend.

The Browns take on the Carolina Panthers on Friday, Aug. 8. Should Pickett and Gabriel be unable to play, it would mean Sanders might take the start.

Flacco is unlikely to play until the “dress rehearsal” game of Week 3, giving Sanders the chance to showcase his skills. Should he light the field up in preseason, he may not be fourth on the depth chart heading into Week 1.
