Just a few days before their opening preseason matchup, the Washington Commanders have a glaring void in their offense. As Terry McLaurin continues his standoff with the front office, one key member of the organization weighed in on the situation.
Heading into the final year of his contract, McLaurin has made his desires for a long-term commitment very clear. However, he and the Commanders have been unable to work out a deal that compensates him fairly and keeps him in Washington for the foreseeable future.
On Thursday evening, things reached a new level when reports emerged that McLaurin formally requested a trade.

Following practice on Saturday, head coach Dan Quinn was asked his thoughts on McLaurin. He cited that the veteran wideout informed him of the trade request before it went public and chalked everything up to the business side of the NFL.
“We love Terry and are really glad he’s here and hope he’s practicing soon,” Quinn told reporters, via ESPN “but I also understand the business side of things. That’s what they’re working through. I love coaching him.”
Despite things being very public, Quinn also stated that this ordeal has not been a distraction for the rest of the team as training camp rolls along.
“Players today are more aware of contracts than they used to be,” Quinn continued. “They recognize that’s the business part. For the team, we’re just rocking. For Terry, the trade request, that’s part of normal business that’s happening around the NFL. We understand it. This group is tight, and they’re focused on what they have to do.”

Despite being without McLaurin, the rest of the Commanders have to continue preparing for the 2025 campaign. Following their massive success last year, Jayden Daniels and company are eager to keep trending in the right direction in hopes of competing for a title.
All they can do is hope things with McLaurin rectify themselves so he can help them on their quest for a championship.
Although McLaurin has publicly expressed a desire to be moved, the Commanders haven’t budged on their stance. They have no plans of entertaining such a move and remain focused on inking him to an extension.
The Commanders are slated to play their first preseason game on August 8th against the New England Patriots.
