A pet parent went to meet a litter of puppies and fell in love with a “docile” one; however, he quickly learned that was all a facade.

When an owner went to meet a litter of golden retriever puppies, he couldn’t stop interacting with the calmest one of the bunch. This pup wasn’t jumping all over him with excitement, but instead, sat at his knees, wagging his tail and looking up in admiration, in a February 14 Instagram video posted by user @lolathegoldendogo.

The man scooped him up, knowing this was his pup, and for a while after bringing this golden retriever home, he still believed she was nothing but sleepy and relaxed. However, when the “return” date had passed, Lola let loose.

The Instagram clip shows Lola bouncing off the walls with her puppy energy, rolling out the entire toilet paper roll onto the floor and jumping from couch to floor and back again with a bad case of the zoomies.

Newsweek reached out to @lolathegoldendogo via Instagram for additional information and comment.

The owner wrote in the caption that it is a “joke,” but others know firsthand how patience-testing the puppy phase can become.

Depending on a pup’s age, their energy levels can change. While they’ll be playful at all ages, typically, around 10 to 16 weeks, puppies enter their “juvenile” stage and test their boundaries, according to an article from Purina. They’re like teenagers at this age.

Their playfulness will continue at 4 months, as they begin play-fighting with other dogs and start to identify their place within a group. At age 6 months to 1 year, you might see another surge of boundary-testing energy levels.

Pet parents must give their dogs plenty of mental and physical stimulation, which will help tire them out.
