Dolphins Top Corner Injured as Secondary Woes Continue

The Miami Dolphins continue to be hit with injury issues, especially to their secondary. Days after the team lost newly acquired Artie Burns to an ACL tear, the Dolphins have experienced another significant injury.

No. 1 cornerback Kader Kohou, who has been impressing in camp, suffered a leg injury and had to exit practice. The good news is that he was able to walk off on his own power, but Kohou suffering any sort of significant injury would dampen the secondary unit even more.

The Dolphins were pegged to sign a veteran free agent cornerback, but the team took its time in doing so. They chose to bring in former New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders corner Jack Jones.

Jones was a signing that needed to happen, considering the team lost Burns for the season.

The cornerback room now consists of Jones and Storm Duck, Cam Smith, Kendall Sheffield, and Jason Marshall Jr. With Kohou suffering an injury, the team might also have to reassess the current unit even more.

The Dolphins were attached to Rasul Douglas, Asante Samuel Jr., James Bradberry, and Stephon Gilmore, and had apparently sent out an offer to Douglas, who did not move on joining Miami.

Now, the Dolphins will have to take things easy with Kohou, who may have suffered an injury that could keep him out for weeks. This is just speculation, as he was still able to walk off the field himself.

Miami has many question marks heading into the 2025 season, with one being the skill of the secondary group. The team chose to trade Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick, which was a solid trade.

Fitzpatrick is now replacing Jevon Holland, who joined the New York Giants. That still does not help the secondary in terms of having another starting-caliber corner like Kohou.

With Jack in the building, the team got a major boost in terms of having another starter opposite Kohou. Jack appeared in 17 games and started 16 for the Raiders in 2024.

Jack did give up eight touchdowns, which is a major concern, but he also posted a 62.8 completion percentage and 98.5 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks. Those are not the worst stats in the world, and he could flourish under defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.

For now, the Dolphins will have to wait and see the severity of Kohou’s injury. Should it be significant, they may want to explore adding another veteran alongside Jack.
