NFL Legend Reveals Strong Opinion of Colts QB Anthony Richardson

The Indianapolis Colts are headed into the upcoming 2025 NFL season with a major question hanging over them at the quarterback position.

Anthony Richardson was supposed to be their long-term franchise quarterback. Chris Ballard and the front office invested the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft into him. So far, that gamble has not paid off.

Entering the upcoming campaign, Richardson is facing a make or break season when it comes to his future with the Colts.

During the offseason, Indianapolis made a move to bring in competition for Richardson. Daniel Jones was signed in free agency.

While Jones is not a proven franchise caliber quarterback, he’s more than capable of pushing Richardson for the starting job. Richardson can’t afford to let that happen.

Ahead of the critical 2025 season for Richardson, one NFL legend has spoken out with a strong opinion about the young signal caller.

Former Cleveland Browns’ superstar offensive lineman Joe Thomas revealed his thoughts on the matter. He doesn’t think the Colts are done with Richardson just yet.

“Quarterback, it’s the most important position in sports,” Thomas said. “You can never have enough of ’em. And when you’ve got a guy like Anthony Richardson, who’s got that crazy potential and just hasn’t been able to tap it yet.”

He continued on, sharing his opinion on where things stand between Richardson and the franchise.

“I don’t know that the Colts would be ready to get rid of him because, again, we have seen enough of Daniel Jones to know that he’s probably not the long-term answer there in Indianapolis,” he said. “For Anthony Richardson, they may be a little bit down on him right now, but I don’t think they’re completely out on him. I do think they wanna give him another chance. You’ve invested a lot when you pick a guy in the first round. And so I think they still wanna make it work.”

Richardson has played in just 15 games throughout his first two NFL seasons. He has completed 50.6 percent of his pass attempts for 2,391 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, while also running for 635 yards and 10 more touchdowns.

At just 23 years old, Richardson’s story has not been written just yet. Thomas still thinks Indianapolis wants to work things out with the young quarterback, but the 2025 NFL season will decide whether or not he’s still the future.
