Commanders Bolster Defense With All-Pro Pass-Rusher

The Commanders continue to add talent ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Washington is signing 3x All-Pro pass-rusher Von Miller to a one-year deal.

Miller, 36, is entering his 14th season and has spent the last three years with the Buffalo Bills. He was named Super Bowl 50 MVP with the Broncos before being traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, where he went on to win another championship. Miller signed a six-year, $120 million deal with the Bills during the 2022 offseason.

Although Miller is a future Hall of Famer with 129.5 career sacks (16th most in league history), he’s recorded just six sacks in his last two seasons. Washington will have to maximize his snaps accordingly.

Miller is the latest noteworthy addition for the Commnaders, who have spent big on productive veterans this offseason. They have traded resources to acquire OT Laremy Tunsil and WR Deebo Samuel, while also signing DT Javon Kinlaw to a three-year, $45 million contract.

After being drafted No. 2 overall by the Broncos in 2011, Miller won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award and compiled 110.5 sacks during his tenure in Denver.

“Fifteen years in the game, you just don’t want to go through those growing pains of losing again,” said Miller after being released by the Bills. “That’ll drag you down faster than anything else. You can never predict what’s gonna happen next, especially in the NFL. You never know what’s gonna happen next. Winning football games is a huge priority for me, and everything comes after that. I’ve done everything I can possibly do. Whatever’s next for me is what’s next.”

Miller posted a picture of himself photoshopped in a Commanders uniform wearing No. 24 to announce the signing.

“D.C. what’s good?” Miller wrote on Instagram.

The Commanders currently have the oldest roster in the league, with an average age of nearly 28 years old. The mindset had been to load up on as much talent as possible while Jayden Daniels is on a rookie contract. If they can resolve the contract dispute with star WR Terry McLaurin, Washington will be a serious contender in the NFC.

“I got this year on the books for sure, I’m going to play this coming up season, just got to find a team to play on,” Miller said May 29. “We’ll just keep doing it one year at a time. If I had another great year this year, then I’ll play the next year after that, but we’ll just keep doing it one year at a time.”
