House Speaker Mike Johnson is signaling a break with President Donald Trump over the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, urging full transparency and public disclosure.
“Put everything out there and let the people decide,” the Louisiana Republican said in a recent interview with conservative podcaster Benny Johnson.
Johnson also called on Attorney General Pam Bondi to explain the Justice Department’s actions. Earlier this year, Bondi claimed officials were reviewing a “truckload” of evidence related to Epstein. However, just last week, the department announced that Epstein left behind no “client list” and concluded that further public disclosure would not be appropriate.
The Justice Department’s position has sparked frustration among many Trump supporters, who had anticipated greater transparency—especially after Trump’s campaign remarks suggested a tougher approach to Epstein-related accountability.
“The White House and the White House team are privy to facts that I don’t know,” Speaker Johnson said. “This isn’t my lane. I haven’t been involved in that, but I agree with the sentiment to put it out there.”
