Scottie Scheffler Has Scottish Open Warning for PGA Tour Pros

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has been out of the mix for most of the Genesis Scottish Open. In fact, his scores have been deteriorating throughout the event, but he still didn’t hesitate to issue a warning to all his colleagues after the third round.

“I’ll need something pretty special tomorrow. But like you said, not out of it,” he said.

Scheffler carded a 1-under 69 during Moving Day, with two birdies and a bogey. Despite the seemingly poor score, the Ridgewood, New Jersey, native believes his performance was much better than the scorecard suggests.

“I felt like I hit a lot of good putts out there and the ball was just dodging the hole today,” he said.

“Sometimes that happens. I made a few coming down the stretch that makes it feel a little bit wet better.”

The score moved Scheffler up six spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for 15th, with a 54-hole score of 6-under. This puts him five shots behind the leaders Chris Gotterup and Rory McIlroy.

Scottie Scheffler Struggling at Links Golf

Scottie Scheffler went from a 67 on Thursday to a 68 on Friday and a 69 on Saturday, a trend that’s quite unusual for him. Also unusual is his bogey count (six), a testament to how demanding The Renaissance Club has been.

“Overall I feel like I was swinging it nice. Sometimes on links you get the bounce and sometimes you don’t,” he said.

“Today definitely felt like one of those days where it was not bouncing where I was hoping it would.”

“I think this is a great amount of wind for links golf because you can still play a lot of different shots and the wind definitely has an effect on the ball at this speed.”

Yet, Scheffler has an excellent track record on links courses. His best finish in two previous Scottish Open appearances was a T3, while he has collected two top-10 finishes in four starts at the Open Championship.

Although it’s located in America, the Pebble Beach Golf Links can’t be overlooked, where Scheffler has twice finished in the top 10 in three tournaments.
