A routine vet visit took an unexpected and highly amusing turn for a woman when she received her dog Gigi’s medical records.

In a viral TikTok video, the owner revealed the photo chosen by the veterinary office for Gigi’s official file, instantly transforming the Chihuahua-Italian greyhound mix into an internet sensation.

Gigi’s owner, Arielle, 27, told Newsweek about the clip, which received nearly 2 million likes, and about Gigi, who has proved an unwavering support during a difficult time.

The image shows Gigi with a wide, almost-manic grin, her eyes gleaming. “The photo the vet took for Gigi’s medical records … They also said she was in perfect shape,” Arielle captioned the video.

Arielle, who recently moved from Florida to North Carolina to start fresh, had taken her then-5-year-old Gigi to the vet for the first time on her own.

“When we got to the vet office, one of the techs came in, saying she needed to take a photo of Gigi,” Arielle said. “As she was taking the photo, Gigi gave her what I like to call her ‘iconic Gigi smile.’ Gigi smiles when she gets excited.”

The vet tech, aware of the photo’s comedic gold, showed it to Arielle and even sent it to her. It wasn’t until moments later, when the paperwork for Gigi’s treatments and costs arrived, that Arielle realized the hilarious image was now permanently fixed to her pup’s official medical history.

‘I Knew Gigi Was Special’

Despite her wild-eyed photo, Gigi’s everyday personality is surprisingly mellow.

“Gigi’s personality is calm but alert,” Arielle said. “She’s always aware of her surroundings but spends most of her time snuggled up in a blanket or perched on a stack of pillows.”

And Gigi’s unique charm hasn’t just captivated her owner; she is becoming a local celebrity.

“I was at a bar the other day and a complete stranger came up to me to say she’s seen me walking Gigi around the neighborhood and absolutely loves her,” Arielle said.

The TikTok video itself has also boosted Gigi’s fame, with Arielle gaining “thousands of followers” since posting the photo. “Some people even have her as their profile photo and will comment on everything I post with her in it,” she said.

For Arielle, though, Gigi is more than just a funny face.

“I knew Gigi was special the moment I met her, so it’s amazing how so many other people are seeing that as well,” Arielle said.

“I’m a cancer patient, so having her in my life has made my treatments much more bearable. Dogs are such a gift—we are so lucky to have them in our lives. I am forever grateful for my Gigi and will keep sharing how great she is with the world.”
