After the second day of the 2026 World Cup, we’ve now seen eight nations play their first games in the tournament.
While Canada came back to grab a well-earned point against the lengthy Bosnia & Herzegovina squad, the United States arguably had their best performance ever at the World Cup, completely dominating Paraguay in a 4-1 victory.
As we do, each night following the games, I will continually update the power rankings of the teams in the tournament. Remember, these are solely based off how they’ve played at the World Cup. No past results or reputations factor into the rankings.
And following a magical night in La La Land, there’s no question which country tops the leaderboard heading into day three, with four games on the docket.

1. United States of America (Group D)
There really is no debate at the moment on who has put on the best performance of the World Cup. The Americans not only dominated a good Paraguay side, but they did it in stylish fashion, linking up and passing the ball around like an elite Champions League side. Folarin Balogun scored a brace and could be having the start of a summer that sees his value skyrocket after the tournament is over.
2. South Korea (Group A)
3. Mexico (Group A)
4. Czechia (Group A)
5. Canada (Group B)
6. Bosnia & Herzegovina (Group B)
Canada should have come away with three points on Friday over Bosnia, but it wasn’t meant to be, as a lack of execution in the final third of the field led the host nation to scrambling late for an equalizer. Bosnia played like a slightly worse version of Czechia, which should still be good enough to most likely get them into the knockouts with a game remaining against Qatar. While neither Canada or Bosnia are truly satisfied with their opener, it should be beneficial for both in the long-term.

7. Paraguay (Group D)
Paraguay was ghastly on Friday. They were toothless against the United States, and their only goal came out of nowhere following a string of substitutions for the Americans already looking towards their next group stage game next week versus Australia. The South American nation is better than what they showed on Friday, but the three goal loss might haunt them down the road if they’re fighting for one of those third place playoff spots.
8. South Africa (Group A)
Still the reigning, defending, undisputed worst team of the World Cup so far, even though Paraguay put up a solid attempt.
