The first round of the RBC Canadian Open teed off on Thursday morning, but one golfer will be missing his tee time.
During the first round of the latest PGA Tour stop, Englishman Paul Waring abruptly withdrew from the tournament. According to a statement from the PGA Tour’s communications department, Waring is dealing with an illness that forced him to miss the final event before the U.S. Open.
“Paul Waring (illness) WD during the first round of the RBC Canadian Open,” the PGA Tour said in a social media post during the first round of the RBC Canadian Open on Thursday morning.

It’s been an interesting season for Waring, who missed the cut in each of his first three events of the 2026 PGA Tour season.
After missing those three cuts, Waring led the Texas Children’s Houston Open by two shots despite entering the week having missed the cut or withdrawn from 17 of his last 21 worldwide starts. He fired a first-round 63 to take the lead in the tournament, but he thought he was building momentum into the round despite his previous results.
“To be fair, I found a little bit of momentum coming forward in the last few weeks,” Waring said after the round.
He eventually finished the tournament in a tie for 39th after a final round 74 doomed his hopes of a top-10 finish.
Now he’s out of the RBC Canadian Open, which was his first event since early April.
